I'm gonna recommend a book--based on my enjoyment of only the first half of it. I'm usually not so enthusiastic about a book. This one, however, has several things goin' for it.
It's about words.
It's about how people speak, and how people hear speech.
It's intellectually accessible, without being condescending nor trivial in content.
It uses the phrase 'hapax legomenon' in such a way that you'll own it, too. And won't that amaze your friends?
