Through Psyche's Eyes #8 - Ultimate Despair

Venus......

This final task you set before me
Fraught with deadly traps,
Marks you as a totally implacable creature
That seeks indirectly to take my life from me.

My errand,
To retrieve from Proserpine
Divine beauty from the depths of Hades.

I only know of one path
To this dark underworld.
Death....
What choice have you given me?

I shall plunge to my death
From the heights of this cliff,
For Love's wings cannot save me....

I will taste of that,
Which this cruel goddess cannot.
