Life is Like a Beach
“Life is like a beach”
Most of you have seen my tag-line I put up once in a while that reads as follows…
“Life is like a beach, sandy, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times downright crabby.”
I am going to break down my philosophy behind that saying because I have deep seated reasons for using it.
“Life is like a beach” – Like the water on the beach, there is an ebb and surge to life. Sometimes the tide is out exposing all manner of interesting things. Other times the tide runs high and leaves little room for enjoyment. You must climb the dunes and it is a hard climb, difficult to stay at the top. Sand fleas and Mosquitos can make you itch and jump along with the flies. Just like people finding the unexpected. It is easy to fall from the top; much easier than the climb up.
“Sandy, gritty” - Like the sand on the beach sometimes life is hard and sometimes life is relaxed and loose. There are many little irregularities to it and all manner of hazards. Like when the wind blows, the sand can scour your face with tiny little pains and get in your eyes causing them to burn. It can be gritty and irritate sensitive areas and make everything difficult and can seem like everything you eat, drink or do is rasping and rough.
“Somewhat fishy” – As sometimes happens on the beach, things can smell and make you unsure what or who to trust and what path you should follow. It can make you tread carefully so as not to step wrong.
“At other times downright crabby!” – Have you ever watched the little crabs scuttling along at the waters edge? They are constantly searching for food or a mate. Digging themselves into the sand and are almost always bad tempered and hard to get along with. You cannot make friends with them and they are either always running away from something or jumping on something.
There you have it. It may be trite, it is short and to the point. Sometimes if you think on something you can discover the deeper meaning behind it. Life is not simple although this little saying may seem so, now that you know the meaning behind it I think you can understand just how much” life is like a beach”.
Respectfully,
Rett
