Do you know what I love about neopoet?
Ok folks, take this all with the understanding that I have a copious amount of wine this evening, but I've got to say I love the international community here on neopoet. I mean, people like Plath, Poe, Kerouac, Frost, etc. were great poets, but were limited by who they could see and when. Here I can count as people I respect a man in Texas, a woman in Oslo, a wonderful, beligerant Australian, (God bless you Jess, I hope you're well!) a man in Tokyo, a Canadian whose very blood ooze poetry, several New Yorkers, (I may never find a better writer than quillsvein) a wonderful British woman, two lovely German ladies, no less than three Indian and south Asian writers who have expanded my joy of poetry, a cantankerous, but bloody and brutally honest karate master in Pugillist, a man so in touch with nature and whimsy (barbsdad) who has taught me more about poetry than I learned in my first 30 years, An expat Iraqi in Portugal writing some of the simplest, yet most important verse I have read, and scores of talented folks from right here in the states; the list goes on beyond what I could say. All with a perfect blend of artistry and humility. How many times in your town do you go to a reading and find nothing but egocentric poets, or pseudo humble low self esteem ones? Here there is so much honesty and humility that I love it. Ok, so you may have guessed by now this is a slightly drunk rant, but one made completely in love. Perhaps when I am sober I will regret this, and delete it, but for now I say "I love you all!"
