Surrender

This wall again has found me

And has surrounded my encampment,

Its turrets silently screaming

Much more effectively than a human voice.

I am trapped…..

For there is no gate

From which to make my escape,

And I petition the walls and towers

To save me from this silence,

But the continual refusal

Causes pride to cease my words.

Here in my solitude

The red bird flies down to greet me,

Cheerfully singing his songs;

Yet, he seems dismayed at my words,

Confused with lack of understanding,

For my sorrow is too heavy for his wings to bear.

While Hope wilts

Under the weight of my expectations,

And it appears

That I will have to speak my words

To an uncaring sky.
