Snow charm

Snowflakes entomb all idle chatter
In the world wide whiteness
Lacing gentle silence around its matter
Enthralling you with its quietness

Noiseless is their magic spell
Tempting you to listen well

Seize the moment before it departs

Now

Open your souls, open your hearts
When you listen to the silence of the snow

my Queen of all Charms

I am so surprised that you managed to make it rhyme! not an easy thing to do! it softly slipped off the screen and gave me goosebumps. I'm so proud, my little charmstress, your best one yet! your Proprietress

my little muse

and to think that it all came about because of a page in my black book with "silence" in your handwriting on it! Did I thank you properly for that book? It is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received! Love, Ink

Hi inkdragon

This poem reminds me of a walk I took with my wife through the falling snow some years back. The flakes were indeed noiseless and the scene was enthralling, as in your poem. Best wishes, Robert.

I like the theme. It is way too cold for me to walk in any snow and chatter, but i am glad i can feel the charm it brings to this poem. The language is clear and refreshing like the silent whiteness of the snow. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Thank you, Barbara,

Glad you enjoyed this one, it is one of my fondest childhood memories to be outside in the snow and listen to how everything turns quiet... Clear and refreshing? Now you´ve reddened my cheeks... Regards, ID

Ink...

the clean quiet of fresh snow is indeed quite beautiful... but like Barbara, I enjoy it from the window now... When I was young I would stay out in it until my ears were red and hurting, fingers and toes as well as my nose... but.. now... it is too cold for me. enjoyed this silent walk with you in the crisp clean quiet. Hi ID

Your piece actually makes me yearn for winter up north, which I never thought possible! Snow is about the only thing I miss from my time in the Northern hemisphere. Lovely, evocative write. Regards, Jo

Excellent verse and imagery, of course,

I expect that from you. But once any poem goes to the second person I get fucking suspicious of inspirationalism! You almost got away with it but the last 4 lines make me scream "No one nor anybody nor any poem tells me what to do or feel!" Sorry, just don't cop that. cheers, Jess

Sorry, Jess,

this was meant as an advice to those who complain about snow (bloody nuisance etc.), it was not meant to tell you what you ought to do. By the way, do you get snow down under? Or have I revealed my meagre knowledge of geography by asking that? Sorry, Ink

Ah, Australia is big, very big, a sub-continent,

The climate in Sydney is much like LA I gather, Melbourne like London but warmer, in the northern tropics white people go crazy like Rett and other southern rednecks, we have more area of snow than Europe in the Alps, but not as high and mostly not ski-able. The only thing you can generalise about Aussie is it is weird. We broke off from Pangaea, the all-one continent before everyone else so we got pre-historic animals, and it affects the people. Deeply spiritual in a disconected sort of way, if that makes any sense. Americans tend to be pretty ignorant of other coutries, not your fault, the education system, but everyone is ignorant about Australia unless they have spent a lot of time here purposely learning. cheers, Jess p,s, can't wait for Rett to read this, but he will probably agree.

oh I'm easily distracted

honestly I don't think I have much to give to your superb poetry. And you know I do not say that lightly. cheers, Jess "A poet's work: to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it going to sleep." Salman Rushdie

Winter walks

As children, my brother and I would often play in the snow after dark. The world was magic, muffled, beautiful. We haven't seen or spoken to one another for 15 years, but your poem reminded me of just how precious those memories are to me. ~ Ronda

Ronda,

like you, I have fond memories of winter days in the snow playing with my brother. I nearly lost contact to my own brother once, and now I am ever so happy to have him back. Siblings are something special, they share so much of our memories and upbringing... Love, Ink

where was I???

I have loved the snow and still stand upon exiting the MACS convienence store looking up at the corner while the soft glow of city lights turns the scene to an amber fire the snow falling like down in its quiet way and an old Siouxsie and the Banshees tune RUNNING RED OVER WHITE has a line "out in the snow muffled..the last quiet night..the last sacrifice.. running red..over white" would lay out in the snow at the edge of the yard light the woods just beyond looking at the stars as dusk fell from violet to dark the bathing light would fail and we would get chilled and run to the comfort and safety of the door (when I was a child in our northern home) Japanese have great winter scenes in movies and books the only season that makes us feel of the primitive vunreable mortal and I have been in the light falling snow of a dark gazebo with one whom stole my heart and kissed her the flakes poised on her red hair like a fine veil

Ah, Siouxsie and the banshees,

there seems to be a lot of snow around here on Neo lately, have you read Cat's snow poem with the blood in it? Perfect picture, like in that song... Yes, snow is magic, transforms the world. Yours, ~Nina P.S. I'm laughing at your comment below, O, as I, too, am working from my warped laptop...
