When?

When did I first see you
with your neat, firm shape
and your mischievous smile?
It might have been yesterday...

And when did we first touch,
in college grounds at night?
Thirty years ago?  Last week?
How quietly time steals by!

When did we first share a bed,
or our first home, or children?
I see those days quite clearly,
as if they had just gone.

And when did we start to notice
we were both becoming old
in body, spirit and mind?
That, at least, wasn't so long ago...
