School and hair Length

The other day my oldest grandson was sent home from school and missed a whole day of education. Why? Because his hair length was one inch below the top of his shirt collar. The school board won't budge on this rul even though the surrounding areas don't have any rules pertaining to hair (for 15 years now) other than to be clean and neat. The following is a letter I wrote to our local newspaper about it. Since it doesn't do any good to argue with them I am trying a different approach.

To the Board of BISD
In this day and age, I can't help but find the silliness of the hair rules at BISD ludicrous.
Kids are taught tolerance, equality, acceptance of other cultures/beliefs but heaven forbid their hair be a little long. I have heard discipline, distraction and about every other excuse in the book for this.

The best one is distraction. If it were a distraction boys and girls would have to wear uniforms and crew cuts.
While all you School officials are busy posturing and pretending that hair length is a detriment to education at least one 56 year old man and many others are laughing at your peacock posturing.
