A Walk Through My City

Walk a little quicker now, your legs are shaking
Don’t forget to remember to call me when you go to bed
I don’t want to stay up all night in worry

Outside the sky has fallen
A deeper moon scene has rose, but welcomed everyone else
The night-lights on the city are beacons to welcome you home

Forget to feel fear as you dash down the street
Every light post you pass is a check on the map
The thieving liars on the sidewalks stare you down

With my eyes to the cityscape
I widen my mouth and raise my glass to the fallen chandelier
I remember walking slow, down the boulevard, but my memories don’t

On your staircase you lean on the white walls
Up to your daunting door
Let yourself in

Play a record and thank yourself for pouring yourself a drink
Dance alone in the moonlight and collapse on your bed
Dial my tone and say goodnight, and kiss the phone goodbye

My city is full of dreams
No one ever fills

My city is full of love
No one ever feels
