Prices (a poem)

Let’s put a tax on big business
Make them pay their fair share
Slap them with windfall profits
They have money they can spare

Record profits twelve billion strong
Dammit why can’t they share some?
I can’t afford to fill my tank
They’re the ones we’ll get it from

My gas prices just went up
Can’t believe it, that’s not right
We stuck them with this windfall tax
Now the price is out of sight

Raise minimum wage to ten bucks
Business has more money than it can use
Holy cow they laid my brother off
Said they had no more money to lose

Hangnail got infected, I’m gonna sue
Doctor didn’t say to do that
He gave me medicine I didn’t take
And I need money while he is fat

Damn, my insurance costs so much
Don’t know how much more today
Why the hell is it so high?
How am I supposed to pay?

I backed up and hit a tree
Hurt my neck, its GM’s fault
They should strive to make it safer
Have you seen what new cars cost?

We blame everybody else
For each stupid thing we do
Then we cuss, gripe and fume
When it raises costs on me and you

Complain of companies leaving the states
Raise their taxes and make them stay
Are they fools or are we just dumb
Serves you right if they go away

Are you sure the drunk on the street
Deserves a cut of your hard earned pay
Minus the cut the government gets
So you can work while they play?
