Back!!
Howdy all! Am back from my fun and sun (lots and lots of sun....geez) and I'm pooped! It was good to see family and friends again, after being away for two years. My cousin's family has since exploded (they work for a wildlife refuge) to include 4 new birds (quail, mourning dove, Coco the African Grey Parrot, and Pablo, a Sengal parrot) and two dogs: Blaze - a husky/Akita mix, and Tasha - a mutt of some sort. Saw some interesting creatures in the desert including black widow spider, horse lubber grasshopper, rattlesnake, Gila monster, corn snake, some mysterious (and majorly ugly) black beetle, jackrabbit, road runner, and various other critters. The temps in southern AZ hovered in the mid 90's and we had a couple of storms.
Had an interesting upgrade to my car - was originally supposed to have a Chevy Aveo (think Daewoo...same size...) but they ran out, so I ended up getting a Pontiac Solstice (think Chevy Corvette mated with a Cobra) It was bright red, and a little two-seater convertible - very cool! It had a decent V6 engine in it, and actually got out of its own way - was very proud of it. LOL!
Mid-AZ was hot and dry (about 102 -104) but it was a dry 104 (LOL!!) Didn't do much on Friday night - dinner and a movie. Saturday evening was spent walking around college town, and enjoying the millions of little shops open for the students and tourists. Sunday was spent up in Four Points Mountain - driving some stomach-wrenching roads, and getting some stunning pictures along the way! At the top, Roosevelt Lake could be seen, and amazingly enough, there was a good deal of water left in it still.
Coming back, had two connecting flights: one in Minneapolis and another in Detroit. AZ to Minnesota was fine - got in early. Detroit started off fine, until they told us that a small door in the pilot's cabin wouldn't close all the way (it was basically a little storage area for belongings - they could have flown still) the plane was grounded with all of us on it for an hour and a half until the door was fixed. Needless to say, I missed my connection in Detroit. I did receive a voucher for a free room at one of the Airport hotels, and a food voucher for some grub. I was booked on the next flight out, which wasn't until 10:30 the next morning. (apparently, Richmond is not a big enough city to have flights going to it after 9pm...*rolls eyes*) I finally got in at about 12:30p - amazingly, my luggage made it, too, and everything was still as I left it!
All in all, except for the flight glitch, I had an awesome time - nicely burned, have some killer photos which I will put on my multiply page, and quite happy and relaxed. Have much to write about, as my block has been nicely cured, so will be putting up new postings soon!
Love,
Jess
