Wee bit of help, please??

Grrrrrr!!!!  My first entry was eaten!!!  Now I gotta type it all over again. *cries*

Let's try this again.... Had gotten a good amount of comments and feedback (many thanks!!) saying that this wee little poem of mine needs expansion.  I thought I'd take it to forum, and see what comes of it.  I'll post the original, and then a little synopsis of what it is I'm looking for.  Here's the original:

Red Ghost

A haze rises from the south.
Covering ev’rything with its blood-red cloak.
Turning the horizon into a distortion.
My eyes start to burn.

The air has an almost putrid taste.
The larger wafts reduce visibility.
An occurrence so significant as to warrant warning.
Warnings which of course this red ghost will not heed.
As it continues traveling; haunting our fair state.

Now - This was written in reference to the fires by The Great Dismal Swamp, Hyde, and Tyrrell Counties. (North Carolina, and southern Virginia)  The warning mentioned is a smoke hazard warning put out by the weather service - basically for those with respiratory ailments, and motorists as the smoke does reduce visibility, especially at night.  The theme is the smoke coming northwards from the fire, not the fire itself (I had gotten a couple comments saying talk about the destructiveness of fire)  Another parallel that no-one has picked up on (Orgami came kind of close) was the movie The Fog (the original from 70's)  I was hoping to give the smoke an eerieness to it, and that movie was its inspiration.  I'm open to any and all suggestions on how this piece can be expanded upon while still incorporating the creepy smoke theme.

BTW: I pulled the original, and had it "link" to this forum.  I will re-post it once I deem it worthy of main stream again.  Just didn't want to flood the comments section with suggestions is all.  Many thanks for reading, and any help that you can give me is greatly appreciated!
