An Oldster's Jeremiad: A Gaffer's Ranting Grouse to Turn the Tap On--En Route to Pigs and Whistles

An Oldster's Jeremiad: A Gaffer's
Ranting Grouse to Turn the Tap
On---En Route to Pigs and Whistles

---

There just ain't no such thing
as social security, at least
not---ding, ding!---in America.

                                          ---barbsdad

---

Social Security

Holds me well securely
In abject penury,

In gainless worry,
In uncommon fury,

And relative obscurity.

---

America tenders sham promises
to too many young and old of
its citizens, but in particular to its
aged.

                                       ---barbsdad

---

(Note: The quaintly vintage
expression
pigs and whistles
appears somewhat soon after
piggybank, I think, in most
so-called unabridged English
dictionaries ... and perhaps
in one or two not quite so self-
toutedly unabridged.)

Oh I don't know

really don't think much to worry about specific to SS. It's all a money shuffle, when they start to get in trouble they just steal it from somwhere else IMO The trouble comes in when there is no place left to steal for anything Deep Ression. Then we get to start all over or so I am thinking now. Mark

stands and cheers

Good job, Chuck. Cool butterfly, too! Thank god for IRAs and high-yield savings accounts. Sharp political commentary

Sharp political commentary and very smooth delivery. Social security? Hmmmm... another word for keeping folk on or often below the poverty line. In my experience it works for some sections of society but not others - especially not the young people we work with. Like this Chuck - and congratulations on a very well deserved spotlight my friend. Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

My father jokes that his retirement plan is pretending to rob a bank, and getting thrown into a larger prison. He says he likes the price of rent. lol

Social Security

Smiles:) Barbara Hmmmmmm a real topic for discussion. Great write about it. Different formats in a poem tend to bother my eyes and confuse my understanding of the poem, but the way you wrote it and have it here is great no problems here, it even made clarity of the meaning even clearer.
