Moral Degredation

Author's note:  Here in lies a very expressive rant.  Should you be offended by coarse language, and subjective opinions, I ask you continue no further... many thanks.  As always, just thoughts and opinions...words on a screen... Just my stuff - take from it what you need, and leave the rest...

Most of my rants are about politics and government abuse and intrusion, however, this one will be mostly of the overwhelming degradation of human society. All problems political, though, eventually boil down to a problem in the populace. We are a bunch of selfish, immoral, jackasses careening through life trying to grab what we can. And we don't care if we deserve it, if we're going to have to hurt someone to get it, or what supposedly cherished ideal we have to sell out for it. We want it, and it must be ours.

This nation has become the greatest nation in history through the hard work, frugality, and industry of the American people. We've devolved into a nation of fat, lazy, and insolent cretins who will trample on our own grandmothers for a beanie baby. We'll mortgage our souls for the latest electronic gadget. We'll lie, cheat, steal, and even gouge someone's eyes out for a talking doll that shits. And we'll proudly present the loot to our kids on Christmas morning and try to act like heroes.

But we're not heroes. We're rampaging Visigoths raping, pillaging, and burning in our consuming desire for consumer bullshit. We're the Mongols of merchandise, the Vikings of video games, the Huns of Hi-Def.  So kids, I hope you're enjoying the new-fangled Nintendo Wii your parents took a second mortgage out to buy you.  I suppose it's too much to go read a book (comics don't count!) learn an instrument, or gasp, dare I say it - go outside and romp around.  However, looking at a lot of these parents, I find it's not hard to understand what puddles of primordial ooze their children are.  Tell me, great ones, the overall plot of the Odyssey?  Who was Friedrich Neitszche?  What is the capital of Vermont?  Who was Nikola Tesla, and why was his work so important? What, you don't know?!  I rest my case.

But nobody notices.  Nobody cares.  As the general IQ of the nation keeps slipping, all we ask ourselves is " Will my latest purchase max out my Discover card? "  And then we sit and lament why our children are becoming pregnant in their early teens (Jamie Lynn Spears sound familiar to anyone?)  Why no one seems to have a respect of authority (don't tase me, bro!) And why we get connected to Bumfuk, India when we have a question about our precious gadgets.  The brand spanking new gadget that doesn't work fresh out of the package, because someone soldered the wrong wire to ground, and as soon as you plugged it in, it shorted.  Thank the assembler with the IQ of 25 making $7 an hour.  You know, the "no child that we left behind" and we graduated him even though he couldn't read past the 3rd grade level?  Yes, that one.  Our proud snowflake that received his diploma, yet can't add a column of numbers without a calculator, his fingers, and his toes. 

Hope you all are enjoying this fine country we live in.  Maybe we need to take a step back, and really think about what redeeming qualities we're giving back to our society....
