I'm confused...

There have been a couple people where I've tried to view their profile, and it says access denied. Do 'new' members like myself have to be a member for a specific limit of time before all features are available? Also, just as a general question: What are the points for? I posted several reviews, and noticed that I get points for them. Thanks in advance for any help/comments.
