Not By a Long Shot
For every time I fall ,The landings get rougher.Perhaps learning to fall easier is a reasonable response more suitable then learn not to fall.
So when I find myself being deceived or witness others being deceived,the gut reaction is to discourage their "fall",however I question that response.After the studies I have brought together,the professional deceivers count on reactionary interventions to isolate "Marks".
A notable repeated feature of defrauded people is the rationalization that that was just one person among a legit practice"Surly they cannot all be cons"
A likely person will even go to a 'free' medium,palm reader,or other diviner. Though they may be cautious to the touch,when the touch does not come they use this simple interpretation of what is perceived to be different in the present case.Sadly this is a practice of the networks of scam artist to recover the "faith" in "clients"who where fleeced,sometime even playing on the fear that there are curses on the "client"/mark."
When they are struck for funds ,they are still good for advertisement and even "scrap book info" also known as hit or gleaning books.
Collections of static info including high school year book clippings,obituaries,wedding announcements,clipping of significant local and near local events. All used to cross reference a new "client".
The loop holes the law allows has been exploited as well shrinking the notice (Intended for Entertainment Only)Required after the FBI Crack down on widow scams during the second world war.As the great Credski Says they pay to see me perform they are charged by people that do the same thing I do in private up to 80 dollars.Or they are used as a " warm light" a beacon for others,each referral strenghtens the "hit book".When a friends girl friend asked me about Sylvia brown I explained the performance version of the method used to dress up parlor tricks.A similar case to the one above.
