Essence of innocence

If you can watch your child and see the joy

in their eyes, something that will bring an innocent smile.

If u can sit and watch this for just a little while

then you know you are still in touch with your inner child

that innocent untouched part of you, still exists

though unfortunately, with life’s many experiences

its the adult in us that constantly resists

the pull of the inner child that wants to surface

its in our most needy moments that this child

should be free to have reign

so that the beating of our heart would not be as wild

so that we can somehow deal with the pain

for this child within is the very essence

of what the world should in fact be

for this innocence is the souls florescence

the want and need for all of us to be free

to laugh and play, to scream and cry

to still be able to be free of heart

and pure of soul, to see the good

for if this was the case more of us would

be able to open up, accept what others have

to offer and freely give

to see there is still a true beauty in the world

one that is wild, free and untamed

next time you here that little voice

deep inside of you wanting and needing to be heard

listen, and answer, set you inner child free

for this is the essence of your ever present innocence
