Abandoned Souls

Abandoned Souls

You did more than abandon our marriage

You ripped two little souls apart

And left all they knew from life in tatters

All to mount your holier than thou carriage

You left them a parent short

All so you could go on your merry way

You left them with feelings to abort

To in some way, some how just go on

Did you ever think of them,

When you decided to up and leave?

Do you know the impact your desertion had?

I often wonder if you do.

You might think of them in the dark of night

But when that darkness fades to the light of day

You once again feel safe, to get on with your life

Never sparing a thought for their inner pain and strife

Do you know how overwhelming

It can get, to on a daily basis

Constantly struggle, to always strive

At times is feels like I’m fighting just to keep them alive

For their happiness is what I fight for every day

I see them awake each morning

And their faces light up with that first smile

The one that often when one is so young, occurs without warning

That makes it all worthwhile

I would not trade it for anything in the whole world

And you are missing out on these daily joys

For you never hear the sound of their sweet voices when they sing

I hope that you will one day come to the realization

Before it is far too late, before they come into the true knowledge

Of how their father was only there for them, when it suited him

How could you think that anything else could ever replace them?

They are the love, tears and joy we all find in life

Start now to rebuild your damaged bridges with them

Start today; do not leave this to tomorrow

Do not wake up one morning knowing nothing but regret

For if you do, this regret will be too late in coming into fruition.

You will only know and feel cold rejection

From these two innocent souls that you left

Do not leave these two already abandoned souls feeling more bereft
