US Coastguard 07/15/07
US Coastguard 07/15/07
To the men and women of the US Coastguard
A job so pained and often hard
Rescuing poor and unfortunate souls
Who if not for them, the people would be swallowed whole?
Angry seas and raging skies
Churning foamy water that belies
The Ferocity of the waves is god wrath
A tidal wave in a whirlpool bath
Steady and fast, heads the chopper out to sea
Trying to cut through the forceful winds that be
Raging war against nature’s fury
Only the, US Coastguard can sit on this jury
God speed the men and women, and come home safe
The choppers wipers blades reject the oceans strafe
Pounding waves only inches below
Certain doom at the centre of nature show
Its power struggle only one can win
As man fights the elements, prayers within.
A flare lights up the unending dark
The pilot spots this little spark
In the vastness of a sea so broad and wide
There are plenty of places for man to hide
And by some ordained miracle the chopper hovers above
The powerless survivors huddled like a glove
The swimmers go in the water full of intrepid
A dash for life, their swimming strokes rapid
And then the cradle of life is lowered, unsteady
The survivors are anxious and ever so ready
To be plucked as though by an invisible hand
A concerto played by a piano grand
Stories of bravery forever told
From a sea so angry, in the freezing cold
But for the US Coastguard they stand tall and brave
Making sure that many survive this watery grave
Just another day at the office
