Boots

My weather boots,
black with peace symbols
scattered knee to toe.

I don't remember when
they came to be mine,
but I've befriended the
creeks they've trotted
through that ramble along

virgin woods feeding
old wells of homesteads
long gone, hidden under slate.

Worn, they rest by my
back door, fresh leaves
clinging to their skin,

folklore about glaciers
softened into their soles.

Boots

You are so crafted and capable of telling beautiful stories about nature and people in rhyme's. My favorite line was in the third stanza! Great job! If you entered a contest I hope that you win! John Leslie O'Kelley. I also like the first stanza with it's reference to peace!

Hello, John,

My old boots have sloshed around a lot - sometimes it's intriguing to think about who has walked before us, and what lies beneath.

Thank you!

These boots.

  ...... are made for walking.

Thanks Lavendar for the share

A lovely,  creative  personification of humble footwear, a warm personal story and full of memories.

It's interesting I had a similar idea in "Shoe stories" if you have read that one.

Hello, Sen,

As I've gotten older, I've purged a ton and taken on a fairly minimalist lifestyle. Items like my boots truly have become part of me, and bring me joy.  And the places where we've been together mean a lot to me, too.

Your poem "Shoe Stories" sounded familiar to me, and it turns out, I've read it!  Lovely, and I can relate to it so well!  The stories our shoes could tell...

Thank you!

You...

are very welcome and thanks for suggesting the Shakespearean slant on my poem "Witch's Curse". You opened up a new way of looking at life and other things!
