My Love, If You Could Only See the Leaves

My Love, if you could only see the leaves,
their blazing flesh from whence their mellow souls
defy surrendering our summer's eves,
deny that autumn's air grasps and controls

our days of sun, our hours in verdant glee.
Yet, here I stand, beneath the royal oak,
its radiance provoking every tree.
And I, though cast in gold, am bleak and broke.

Oh, Autumn! Hold your songs and striking hues!
Let summer linger so my love may stay.
Look to my heart, then gracefully refuse
to let the darkness claim the light of day.

My Love, our season has now come and gone.
The leaves are falling, and the light has drawn.

Nice stufff...

this mirrors my thoughts on Summer and the warmer months of the year. Winter is to be despised through closed windows and left outside where it belongs, in paintings, and advertisements for tires on T.V. I think that your sonnet is done very well. ~ Geez.

Hello, Geezer,

A small part of me loves the change of seasons, but I am never prepared to say so long to summer. Yes!  Those winter-scene paintings are lovely, and the snow tires are a necessary evil! Ha!

Thank you for reading!  Every once in a while I try to wrap my head around a sonnet.

Hello Lavender my dear friend

I can't remember the last time I have written or read a sonnet here. This is quite beautiful and inspiring in every way . The closing lines are just perfect

"My Love, our season has now come and gone.
The leaves are falling, and the light has drawn".

Thank you for sharing this beauty.

Hello, My Friend!

Yep, I tend to do more free verse, but an attempt at such a disciplined structure is a nice challenge.  Trying to continue learning.

Thank you for reading, and as always, for sharing your wisdom.

There is definitely a very melancholy feeling each year, and a bit hard to let go.

Liked the poem very much. I…

Liked the poem very much. I hope to try the sonnet form.

Especially like this stanza:

"Oh, Autumn! Hold your songs and striking hues!
Let summer linger so my love may stay.
Look to my heart, then gracefully refuse
to let the darkness claim the light of day."
