Challenge Sweet Talk from My Lover. Short and Sweet.

Each night before I fall asleep
I feel her breath caress my cheek,
I feel her hair like softest dew
Her scented flesh that wakes anew
Feelings strong I can't ignore
Until, that is, she starts to snore.

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:

The poem presents a concise narrative arc, moving from romantic intimacy to a humorous twist. The sensory imagery in the first four lines—breath, hair, scent—effectively establishes a mood of tenderness and physical closeness. The repetition of “I feel” and “her” creates a rhythmic consistency and emphasizes the speaker’s focus on sensory experience.

The shift in the final two lines introduces contrast and surprise. The phrase “Feelings strong I can’t ignore / Until, that is, she starts to snore” subverts the preceding romantic build-up with a mundane, relatable detail. This pivot relies on timing and brevity, which are handled well in the context of a short poem.

For further refinement, consider the following: - The line “Her scented flesh that wakes anew” is somewhat ambiguous; clarifying what is meant by “wakes anew” could strengthen the image. - The transition to the punchline could be made even sharper by tightening the syntax or rhythm in the final line, perhaps by omitting “that is” for greater immediacy: “Until she starts to snore.”

Overall, the poem’s structure and use of sensory detail support its comic reversal, and the brevity suits the subject matter. Further attention to clarity and rhythm in the closing lines could enhance the impact.

Just thought...

that it could be really funny to have her wake up with the dog next to her snoring away or how you spent the night on the couch, maybe... Well, you get the idea. ~ Geez.

Thank you

Thank you Ruby. Geezer suggested expanding it but I can't think of anything suitable. I have tried writing more, but nothing seems to work. Reckon I'll leave it as it is. Alex.
