I once asked God?
I once asked God,
how far can you see?
with a puzzled look
he glanced down at me
he retorted back
distance wasn’t easy for me
but come along and we will see
where God and man began to be
I climbed up into his arms so strong
and thru the night he led me along
making our way thru eternity
when what with my wondering eyes did I see?
pools of intelligence, pure energy
waiting for someone or something to set them free
thru procreations act to be brought to life in ambiguity
though sons and daughters of god they would be
we ventured further into the night
to discover the first striking of eternal light
but what I saw I found hard to believe
there were others doing the same thing
propagating worlds in glory and majesty
there was no end, as far as I could see
to the human race to God’s family
with hearts knit together in unity
worlds without end
throughout eternity!

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
This poem explores metaphysical and theological themes through a narrative of questioning and revelation. The structure is mostly free verse, with lines of varying lengths and a conversational tone. The poem’s central device—a dialogue with God—serves as an entry point into broader reflections on creation, eternity, and the nature of divinity.
The poem’s strengths include its imaginative scope and the way it moves from a personal question to a cosmic vision. The progression from a simple inquiry to a sweeping panorama of “worlds without end” is effective in conveying a sense of awe and wonder. The use of imagery such as “pools of intelligence, pure energy” and “the first striking of eternal light” helps to evoke the abstract concepts being explored.
There are areas where the poem could be strengthened. The rhythm and pacing are somewhat uneven, with some lines feeling prosaic (“distance wasn’t easy for me,” “making our way thru eternity”) and others more lyrical. Consider revising for consistency in tone and musicality. The poem occasionally relies on abstract language (“ambiguity,” “glory and majesty,” “unity”) that could be grounded with more concrete imagery or sensory detail to make the experience more vivid for the reader.
The rhyme is sporadic and does not follow a regular pattern, which is not a problem in itself, but it might help to either embrace free verse more fully or introduce more consistent sound patterns if musicality is a goal.
The narrative arc is clear, but the transition between scenes—especially the shift from the personal journey to the cosmic vision—could be clarified. For instance, the line “when what with my wondering eyes did I see?” is a nod to “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” which may or may not be intentional. If it is an intentional echo, consider whether it fits the tone of the poem.
The poem’s conclusion, with its emphasis on unity and eternity, is thematically resonant, but the final lines could be tightened for greater impact. The phrase “worlds without end / throughout eternity!” is powerful, but consider whether it might be more effective if the buildup to this moment were more focused.
Overall, the poem’s ambition and scope are commendable. Further revision could help clarify the imagery, refine the language, and strengthen the poem’s emotional and philosophical resonance.
