The House Waits

The glamour is fading - not a minor concern.

The spires stand rigid and tight. Porch

cushions can't disguise they're a

mound of dead flies. The scent

of pie is too spoiled to lure.

The House down the lane

is trying so hard to

draw the wary and

keep the scary

inside.

Within

is a hunger

for innocence and

terror. The spirits all

restless and cursed. So angry

at life and the living they abhor,

eating souls is what quenches their thirst.

The House cannot hunt, it must patiently wait.

For a choice and a Cross to be kissed. And a foot to be

placed on the creaky front step that it has never been able to fix.

Congratulations to Geezer for winning the July poetry contest Wonders Of The World.
Aussieland is Calling
by; Geezer
I'd like to live down-under
In Aussieland by the sea
With wallabies and waves of thunder
And Eucalyptus trees
The Outback filled with the songs
Of Kookaburra birds
And frog-filled billabongs
Grasslands and kangaroo herds
I'd listen through the night
To Aboriginal didgeridoos
Watch the sun come up bright
Look for spiders in my shoes
Ahhhh, the call of the wild
The Outback calling me
Me, a nature-child
A regular Croc Dundee

The Neopoet

The last year has been challenging for all of us, and we were very sad to lose a number of our members to the pandemic. We are a volunteer run community. We appreciate the support of our new Administrative Council, the Cabinet, and our many volunteers. Thanks to their enthusiasm and ideas, we have a bright future. If you would like to volunteer, or are interested in supporting Neopoet through a premium membership, please let us know, or reach out to any of our volunteers, or visit https://www.neopoet.com/volunteer and www.neopoet.com/premium. Thank you for being the best family of poets on the internet!

Sincerely,

The Neopoet Board of Trustees

K.S Snow, a member of Neopoet for two months has this to say about his experience with our community.

My experience in Neopoet has been amazing. I've learned a lot about poetry writing so far, and the people have been so helpful. Neopoet helps me consider the idea of being a professional writer one day because the website allows me to publicly post and communicate with other talented writers without asking for anything back. The website itself is organized and offers a variety of opportunities to improve and participate in poetry writing (like the chat, comment, and contest feature). Lastly, Neopoet's mentor/mentee feature is amazing because it shows that anyone can seek help, and capable writers can assist others.
Before Neopoet, I never really paid attention to the structure of my poetry because I genuinely didn't think it mattered. However, the writers commented and helped me understand that. I have never really received that much helpful criticism before. Another thing that I learned is that general poetry has a distinct style and that sometimes punctuation doesn't always matter. You can write what you desire, and the writing rules don't always loom over the prose. Finally, I learned techniques like finding a comfortable length and counting the syllables to create an example for the rest of the lines in a poem. This technique is for structuring a poem ( learned it from Mark).
One of the main reasons why I joined Neopoet was for the comments and opinions of others. I truly wanted to know what people thought about my writing. Something that the people in Neopoet have truly changed for me is that they alleviated my fear of receiving criticism. Thankfully, I have not come across anyone rude or demeaning, and it's made me feel welcomed. Another way people have helped me here is by making me feel accepted. I'd say my writing is dark. However, I don't feel judged, and I don't feel weird or uncommon. This encourages me to write more, and I love it. Everyone that I have come across just has been pleasant and helpful, and it is to the point that I get excited when I see that I have received a new message/update.

Neopoet thanks K.S Snow for such kind words. If you would like to leave a testimonial about your experience with Neopoet then please go here: https://www.neopoet.com/node/add/testimonial

And Here It Is!
Wilde Night in the life
Staring across the tension tight space
separates
me from the door
wondering how fast a draw
how many shots
will I make it across the floor
A maniac is laughing
in the bathroom
advising in a pitched bozo voice
"It's time to grow up kids"
gotta expect that from a lunatic
yeah just grow up and quit......
sounds quite a bit
like a wife I had
and painful slow suicide
waiting gets intense
cracking like an electric charge
now poised, frozen
on the edge of a trance
long, dark and black
the moment tightly wound
the feeling tightly wrapped
the question of this space and time
when will the tuning go too far
and cause the string to snap
killing off the parrot in the corner
and making everybody laugh
Congratulations to atorn

Below is a random sample of a challenge poem.
Simon chose the challenge When I Am Old (from the April Challenge)
Good health seems to be a gift
And a blessing for old age
When one enjoy his labor
as gray hair covers his body
When I am old
I will reside in my prefere village
And have animal farms
Watch them run scattered as they multiply
And gather them back
I will have my grand children
Call them together as stories and riddles
Gives sweet melodies
And they listen
While my childhood be rememberd
As I watch them play.
When I am old
I'll love to teach my grandies
And other children about the nature
Discover their gifts and talents
I'll teach them greatness
For its about helping others grow
Seeing them with wisdom and pure heart
I will get me closer to God
Wait for my dying day
When I am old.

The winner of the April 2021 Neopoet Poetry Contest is Viviana Smith..
Here is Viviana’s winning entry:
This one lovely day
by; Viviana Smith
When a crisp wind blows through the blue
and flings my hair up to kiss my face
it brings the smell of salt, and a faint memory too
the ocean sprayed its tangy taste
but its smell was syrupy sweet
I had laid my head on my beautiful boy
smelling his sweaty scent
though it was brackish it was somehow comforting
just like the ocean's breeze
I ran my hand through his luscious hair
bringing wondrous and curious scents
There was the slight smell of the juiciest oranges
and a grimy wift of dirt
it also brought that pleasant scent
that one can never describe
it makes you feel just full of love
like you could spread your wings and fly
but I snuggle down into my lovable dog
and into dreams of his wonderful aroma
and everytime I smell the ocean sweet but salty scent
I think back to that lovely day
when the smells of my love brought me sleep

There is about to be a change in the workshop application process. There will be an onsite application filled out by the workshop leader/applicant who must have been active on site for three months and the application mailed to the cabinet. The Cabinet will work alongside the workshop leader to assist as needed. This new procedure will be in place soon.

The selected poem for this Neopoet issue is:
The Other End of the Table by; Lavender
It is harshly distant -
as if looking over an unearthed field
stretched out beneath a thin, gray sky.
There is your chair,
your aura timely wrapped
around the wood, the frame,
the scratches in the paint.
I pass the evening with a slice of toast,
one small potato -
reflections of things that are only
part of something else,
something once whole.
There is a meaningless
silence out the window,
and I stand to take my dishes to the sink.
Approaching thunder rumbles
as I turn to touch your chair,
as I've done each night before.

Hi L, it's always a pleasure
Hi L, it's always a pleasure to return here. Yes, I understand about the "triggering" of emotions. Yes, our Summer is lovely, slightly on the fresh side. Today 20°C. Glad your Winter is mild.
My Muse seems to have taken a holiday since I had my fall about a month or so ago. The good news is that I'm much better. I have a physiotherapist who comes to my home and she's getting me back "on my feet"...lol.
I certainly hope to get inspired again. Some days I don't know what to do with myself, so that should get me going. But lots of people are feeling low in lockdown for so long. How are you faring? With all the bad news on TV, I try not to watch it any more.
Keep safe, hugs, Gracy
