My Mother
You taught me how to read and write.
You taught me how to voice with might.
You taught me there's no fists to fight.
You taught me truth is the path to right.
You gave me all the strength I need.
All the knowledge required to succeed.
You showed me there's no place for greed.
To show love is how to plant the seed.
You never saw me beg for permission.
You never thought a moment to listen.
You one eyed view to God is your mission.
You duty of care ended with Christen.
I need you to see things from my point of view.
I've been trying for ages now, it's nothing new.
The war that I've fought is not queer or askew.
The war that I've fought is to feel love from you.
