Birthday Poem
40 swans
with outstretched wings
all feather and muscle
40 ashtrays
full of the soot
of waste's sadness
40 mountains
the same distance
up as down
40 shoelaces
snaked through
my walking shoes
40 blackbirds
with eyes unblinking
Read the rest of the poem Show less
as the night
40 fingers
plucking guitar strings
of gold
40 coats
shielding against
the bitter cold
40 alphabets
for all the language
inside
my forty year old self

"Zen-ful form of self - evaluation. (May Contest)" by @ImageWeaver

About Me
I've been a songwriter for twenty years and just started getting more serious about poetry. I love all the classic poets: Emily Dickinson, John Donne, Walt Whitman, and the like. As well as contemporary poets, like Billy Collins, Mary Oliver, and Seamus Heaney. I'm trying to write often, and love the metaphysical, the quirky, the perfect playful metaphor that's yet to be put down in verse. I want to get better, so I am looking for feedback, as well as encouragement. https://twitter.com/gregwalkerpoet
